Blog 006 - Denbies to Launch First Cycle Day in the Surrey Hills

Denbies Wine Estate invites you to take a greener route through the Surrey Hills this July with the launch of its first ever Cycle Day, a free event designed to encourage sustainable travel, support better visitor experiences and make everyday journeys by bike feel easier, more practical and more enjoyable.

Taking place on Wednesday 15 July, from 10.30am to 2.30pm, the free-to-attend event will bring together e-bike demos, cycling experts, route advice, sustainable travel guidance and some of the region’s leading cycling partners for a hands-on day across the estate.

Held in conjunction with SolarCycle, Estarli electric bikes, and Green Commute Initiative, the event will offer e-bike demonstrations, cycle-to-work support, route inspiration and expert advice for anyone looking to make greener journeys with greater confidence.

Chris White, CEO of Denbies Wine Estate, comments: “With more than 160 people working across the estate, even small changes to how we travel can make a big difference. If this day gives someone the confidence to try an e-bike, cycle to work once a week, or explore the Surrey Hills in a new way, then it has done exactly what we hoped.”

The idea follows Denbies’ involvement in Surrey County Council’s Travel to Work scheme in 2025, helping shape Cycle Day as a practical way to encourage lower-carbon travel and support the local cycling community. It also forms part of Denbies’ wider sustainability journey, from certified Net Zero wine production to B Corp certification.

At the centre of the day will be the chance to try Estarli electric bikes, with the team running demonstrations throughout the event. Founded in 2020, Estarli has grown from a garage-born idea into a British e-bike brand helping more people swap short car journeys for cleaner, more enjoyable rides.

For anyone curious about cycling to work, the Green Commute Initiative will be on hand to offer guidance on the Cycle to Work scheme, including how staff and employers can save money while supporting healthier, greener journeys.

Visitors will also be able to learn more about Denbies SolarCycle e-bike chargers, which were installed on the estate in August 2024. Paul Stratford, CEO of SolarCycle, will be available during the day to answer questions about off-grid charging, e-bike safety and how charging points can make sustainable journeys easier.

One of the key routes being highlighted is the Leith Hill Greenway, a scenic, mostly off-road trail linking the Denbies and Box Hill area with Leith Hill. Passing through vineyard, woodland and rolling countryside, it offers a scenic way to explore the Surrey Hills, with far-reaching views from Leith Hill Tower towards London and the south coast.

Denbies Cycle Day takes place on Wednesday 15 July, from 10.30am to 2.30pm, and is free to attend. Whether you are thinking about cycling to work, trying an electric bike for the first time, planning a day out in the Surrey Hills or simply looking for a greener way to travel, come along, meet the experts and get started. No booking required.

It has been a beautiful Spring. We moved a few of our hives to Denbies just in time for the bees to stir after the winter.   Beekeepers need to make sure the bees are given clean hives in the Sprin...
